Newborn Photography – Frequently Asked Questions

best family photographer in London Kent Essex UK England Archives - But Natural PhotographyNewborn photography is such a special and important time in your baby’s life. Capturing these early moments will be something you cherish for a lifetime. Here are some frequently asked questions about newborn photography to help you prepare for your session.

When is the best time to schedule my baby’s newborn photography session?

The best time to schedule your baby’s newborn photography session is between 5-14 days after they are born. This allows us to get those beautiful sleepy, and curled-up poses that are so characteristic of newborns. If your baby is older than 2 weeks, don’t worry! We can still capture beautiful images, but they may not be the traditional “newborn” poses.

How long will the session take?

Newborn sessions generally take 2-3 hours from start to finish. This includes feedings and diaper changes as needed. I want you to feel relaxed and comfortable during the session, so we will take our time and go at the baby’s pace.

What should I wear?

For parents and siblings, I recommend simple, neutral clothing that coordinates well together. You want your clothes to compliment the overall look of the pictures, not compete with them. Also, search for Newborn Photographer in San Diego.

For babies, I have a variety of props and accessories that we can use. If you have something specific in mind or would like to use a family heirloom, please let me know ahead of time so that I can incorporate it into the session.

How much does a newborn photography session cost?

This answer can vary depending on the photographer, but you can expect to pay anywhere from $200-$2000. Some photographers charge by the hour, while others charge a flat rate. Be sure to ask your photographer what their pricing includes so you know exactly what you’re getting.

When should I book my newborn photography session?

I recommend booking your session when you are about 30-32 weeks pregnant. This allows us to schedule a date and time that works best for both of us, and it also ensures that we will have a spot for you. Newborn sessions are very popular, so if you wait too long to book, you may not get the date and time that you want.

How many pictures will I receive?

This answer also varies depending on the photographer, but you can expect to receive anywhere from 20-50 edited images.

What is the turnaround time for receiving my images?

Again, this answer can vary, but you should expect to receive your images anywhere from two weeks to a month after your session.

What Should I Bring To The Session?

For newborn sessions, I provide everything we need for the photoshoot, including props and backdrops. However, there are a few things you’ll need to bring with you:

-A pacifier (if your baby takes one)

-Several bottles of milk or formula

-An extra change of clothes for yourself and your partner, in case we get any unexpected surprises 😉

-Any special items you’d like me to include in the photos (a blanket from grandma, etc.)

-Snacks and drinks for yourself and your partner! Trust me; you’re going to need them.

Congratulations on your new arrival! These early days with your new baby are so precious and will go by so quickly. Capturing these moments with professional newborn photography will be something you treasure for a lifetime.
